Our Heritage

The Cochoqua Khoikhoi were historically known as one of the most powerful pastoral communities in Southern Africa. They were skilled cattle herders, traders, and leaders within the Khoikhoi society.

Their presence in the region long predates colonial settlement, and their traditions, language, and social systems played an important role in shaping the cultural landscape of Southern Africa.

Despite the challenges brought by colonization and displacement, the legacy of the Cochoqua people continues through their descendants today.

Our mission

Recognition of Our Heritage

Our vision is to see the heritage and identity of the Cochoqua Khoikhoi people fully recognized and respected throughout South Africa and across the African continent. For many years, the history and contributions of the Khoikhoi people have not been fully acknowledged. Through Oedasoa Cochoqua, we aim to restore awareness and appreciation of our ancestral legacy so that the story of our people becomes an important and visible part of African history.

We envision a future where the cultural identity of the Khoikhoi people is preserved and celebrated by current and future generations. Culture forms the foundation of who we are as a people.
